   Below is the schedule for this year's Best Friend Festival, which will be held June 10-17, 2017.
Date Activities
Saturday, June 10  8:30-11 a.m. Kids Fishing Day. Held at the Norton Reservoir. Sponsored by Norton Parks and Recreation and Norton Lions Club. Kids 12 and under.
Sunday, June 11  10 a.m. Inaugural Woodbooger Chase Triathlon. Norton Reservoir. Visit J.I. Burton High School Art Gallery on Facebook for more information and to register. Sponsored by J.I. Burton High School Art Gallery.
Monday, June 12  7:30 p.m. Music of The Mountains Homecoming Concert. Country Cabin II. A Tribute to the Stanley Brothers featuring Ricky Skaggs, Ralph Stanley II, and Larry Sparks. There is an admission fee for this event: $20 Advance/$25 Regular. Visit for more information
Tuesday, June 13  4-7 p.m. Norton Friends & Farmer’ Market & Outdoor Expo. Farmers Market Building, 8th Street, SW. Locally grown produce, market basket giveaway, Kids Bucks, and cooking demos. Outdoor Expo: Gem Mining, Horse and Buggy Rides, Pie Eating Contest, North 40 Airsoft Demo, Bear Creek Archery Demo, Natural Tunnel Exhibit. Sponsored by All Indoor Farm Store.
Wednesday, June 14 
  • Norton’s Largest Sandbox Open. Norton City Park. Hidden prizes in the sand. Sponsored by Norton Parks and Recreation.
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: First Bank & Trust Picnic in the Park. Free hot dogs and music featuring DJ Freddie Bradley. Sponsored by First Bank & Trust Company. 
  • 1 p.m.: Paint-a-Trash-Can. Norton City Park. Sponsored by Norton Parks and Recreation and Vic’s Decorating. 
  • 1 p.m.: Woodbooger Slime. Norton City Park. Sponsored by Upper Tennessee River Roundtable. 
  • 1 p.m. Outdoor Crafts. Norton City Park. Sponsored by Norton Community Hospital.
  • 2 p.m. Bike Rodeo. Ages 12 and under. Norton City Park. Child bicycle safety course. Sponsored by Old Dominion Power Company, Lonesome Pine Office on Youth, Family Preservation Services, Lonesome Pine Cycling, Norton Social Services, Norton Police Department, InTotal Healthcare, Anthem Insurance, Virginia Department of Health and Norton Parks and Recreation.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Kids Karaoke Contest. Ages 2 to 10 and 10 to 18. Norton City Park. An Adult Karaoke Contest for those ages 18 and above will also be held. Musical entertainment will be provided during intermission and at the end of the contests by Freddie Bradley. Sponsored by WAXM.
  • 9 p.m.: Movie Night. J.I. Burton High School Football Field. Sponsored by Norton City Schools.
Thursday, June 15 
  • 10 a.m.: Norton Cinema City Kid’s Day. Movies at 10 a.m. and noon. Admission $1 for children. Sponsored by Norton Cinema City 
  • 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Senior Citizens Day. Norton City Park. Featuring free lunch for seniors, bingo, cakewalks, free plant give away (Green Thumb Garden Club), ZUMBA with Cindy Duncan Berry and more! Sponsored by Freedom Ford, Wolf Williams & Reynolds, Virginia State Police, Wise County Sheriff’s Department, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Norton Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and Mountain View Regional Medical Center.
  • 5-9 p.m.: Norton Lions Club Kid’s Night. Norton City Park. Featuring kiddie rides, games, cartoon characters, face painting, crafts, kiddie train, and much more! Sponsored by Norton Lions Club, Wise County Public Library and Pepsi Cola Bottling Company.
  • 8-11 p.m.: Crankin’ with Crutchfield Car Show and Teen Dance (Ages 13-19). Municipal Parking Lot, Park Avenue. Featuring a teen dance, hot cars, cool prizes. Sponsored by Crutchfield Corporation
Friday, June 16 
  • 1-3 p.m.: Slip & Slide Water Activities. Norton Elementary School Parking Lot. Featuring water rides and games, etc. Sponsored by Norton Parks and Recreation, Norton Lions Club, Walmart.
  • 7 p.m.: GET READY TO DANCE, CHEER, TWIRL AND TUMBLE. Featuring Stepz, Highlands Dance Academy, Star Twirlers. Located Between 6th and 7th Street.
  • 7 p.m.: Friday Night Family Fun Night with a Concert by Thomas Cassell, The Craig Street Band and the JV Squad. Sponsored by The City of Norton, Coalfield Progress, Walmart Supercenter, Frontier Secure, Food City, New Peoples Banks, Sykes Enterprises, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Lonesome Pine Economy Drug, Reno’s Roadhouse, Mullican Flooring, Wells Fargo Bank. Downtown Norton.
  • 7-11 p.m.: A Kid’s Place. Park Avenue. Bungee jump, kiddie rides and train, face painting, washable tattoos, sand art, etc. Sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank-Norton, Dominion, Walmart Supercenter, Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Old Dominion Power Company, Appalachia Community Federal Credit Union, Miners Exchange Banks, Dr. William C. Saturday, June 17 
  • 7-11 a.m.: Norton Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. 7th Street. Tickets: $6. 
  • 7 a.m.-3 p.m.: Citywide Yard Sale. Norton. Pre-Register by June 10 to be included in the $100 give-away.
  • 7 a.m.: Flea Market Vendors. Municipal Parking Lot, Park Avenue.
  • 7 a.m.: Registration for the Mountain States Health Alliance Rehab 5K Run. Market Street, behind Vic’s Decorating, Park Avenue. 
  • 8 a.m.: Mountain States Health Alliance Rehab 5K Run. Start/Finish on Market Street, behind Vic’s Decorating, Park Avenue. Sponsored by Mountain States Health Alliance Rehab and Norton Community Hospital.
  • Noon-8:30 p.m. High Knob Music Festival. High Knob Recreation Area.
